Dutch Information
Dutch is spoken by millions of people, mainly in the Netherlands, Belgium and Suriname, but also by smaller groups of speakers in parts of France and Germany, areas bordering Holland, and in several former Dutch colonies. Dutch is also spoken in Aruba and Netherlands Antilles.
Dutch is also the parent language of Afrikaans, one of the official languages of South Africa. Dutch and Afrikaans are to a large extent similar and understood by both, although they have separate spelling standards and they use different dictionaries.
The language spoken in Belgium is called "Flemish", everywhere else it is called "Dutch".
