Flemish Information
The language spoken in Belgium is called "Flemish", everywhere else it is called "Dutch".
Dutch is spoken by millions of people, mainly in the Netherlands, Belgium and Suriname, but also by smaller groups of speakers in parts of France and Germany, areas bordering Holland, and in several former Dutch colonies. Dutch is also spoken in Aruba and Netherlands Antilles.
Dutch is also the parent language of Afrikaans, one of the official languages of South Africa. Dutch and Afrikaans are to a large extent similar and understood by both, although they have separate spelling standards and they use different dictionaries.
Flemish Language Facts
In writing, both Dutch and Flemish are almost identical. However, when spoken, there is a difference in pronunciation and in a few words. World Translation Center differentiates between Dutch and Flemish speakers; the Dutch speakers record in Holland and the Flemish speakers in Belgium.
Writing Flemish
Dutch and Flemish use the Latin alphabet.
