Maltese is the official language of Malta.
Maltese (Maltese: Malti) is the national language of Malta, and a co-official language of the country alongside English, while also serving as an official language of the European Union, the only Semitic language so distinguished. Maltese is descended from Siculo-Arabic (the Arabic dialect that developed in Sicily, Malta and the rest of Southern Italy), but with a large percentage of borrowed vocabulary from Italian, Sicilian and English. Therefore, the Maltese language is a Semitic language like Arabic, Hebrew, Phoenician and Ethiopian. However, unlike these languages, Maltese is written using the Latin alphabet with some added special characters to add the Semitic sounds otherwise not present in the Latin alphabet. Influence of the proximity of Italy is also visible in the Maltese language.
There are 29 letters in the Maltese Alphabet; Maltese fonts have to be installed on your computer to be able to see and print text properly. Delivery of translation will be done in PDF format; if a translation needs to be formatted, we will deliver a high resolution PDF file ready for printing.
